About Bielikchat
Bielik Chat is the public chat interface for Bielik, a Polish open-source large language model developed by the SpeakLeash (Spichlerz) foundation — a community-driven initiative building a 1TB+ Polish-language dataset and generative AI models optimised for the Polish language.
Named after the Polish white-tailed eagle (bielik), the project is one of Europe's flagship efforts in sovereign AI — a locally-trained, Polish-optimised alternative to ChatGPT and Gemini that understands Polish grammar, idiom, and cultural context far better than general-purpose models fine-tuned primarily on English.
Key features:
- Polish-optimised tokenizer — trained specifically for Polish linguistic structure
- Open source — models, weights, and training data openly available
- Generative Pre-trained Transformer — modern LLM architecture
- Community-driven — developed openly via Discord and GitHub by Polish AI researchers
- Public chat arena — try Bielik and compare with other Polish-capable models
- Sovereign AI — trained and operated in Poland, independent from US hyperscalers
The SpeakLeash foundation partners with Polish academic institutions and continues to release new model versions with improved Polish performance. A free community project — ideal for Polish users, researchers, and developers needing an LLM that truly speaks Polish.
Why choose Bielikchat over Claude?
The decisive argument is data jurisdiction. Claude is headquartered in US, which means personal data processed through it can be subject to non-EU legal regimes — the US CLOUD Act, FISA 702, or similar laws depending on the provider. After the 2020 Schrems II ruling, EU organisations must carry out a transfer impact assessment for every such data flow.
Bielikchat removes that overhead. As a Poland-based provider, it operates natively under GDPR, and data stays inside the EU/EEA by default. For regulated sectors — health, public administration, finance — that's not a nice-to-have but a requirement. For everyone else, it's concentration-risk insurance: you avoid depending on a single non-EU jurisdiction that can change the rules without warning.
