Todoist is the to-do app many people settle on for its fast natural-language entry and the way it works the same everywhere, from phone to desktop to browser extension. The free Beginner plan is capped at five personal projects, and Pro costs 7 dollars a month or 60 dollars a year. The service is offered by Todoist Inc., a Delaware corporation whose terms say it is operated from the United States, even though the Doist team is remote-first.

About OmmiQ

OmmiQ is a simple to-do list and day planner for personal use, built to sit quietly in the background while you work through your tasks. The core app is free with no ads and no tracking, and the few optional extras are one-time purchases rather than a subscription.

Tasks go in from a single line of text: type something like "buy milk tomorrow 3pm #groceries" and OmmiQ picks out the date, time and category. Inbox, Today and Scheduled views keep the day in order, and the app installs to your phone or desktop as a progressive web app, with no app store involved.

Key benefits:

  • Natural-language quick add turns one typed line into a dated, categorised task
  • Smart views for Inbox, Today and Scheduled keep each day focused
  • Recurring tasks and subtasks handle daily, weekly and monthly routines
  • Custom categories with colours and emojis make lists easy to scan
  • Instant search across active and completed tasks
  • One-time extras such as a week view or task streaks, never a subscription
  • Data export and a trash bin with restore keep your tasks in your hands

OmmiQ is run by Dennis Peld as a registered sole proprietorship in Berlin, Germany, and is self-funded with no investors. The app, API and database run on a server in Frankfurt am Main, rented from Hostinger, with payments through Mollie in the Netherlands and account emails sent through Proton in Switzerland. There is no analytics or error-reporting service. Push reminders are optional, and when switched on they pass through the browser vendor's push service, which means Google or Apple in the United States for Chrome and Safari users.

Ideal for individuals who want a calm, private daily planner without a monthly fee or a team-collaboration feature set they will never use.

Why choose OmmiQ over Todoist?

The decisive argument is data jurisdiction. Todoist is headquartered in the United States, which means personal data processed through it can be subject to non-EU legal regimes: the US CLOUD Act, FISA 702, or similar laws depending on the provider. After the 2020 Schrems II ruling, EU organisations must carry out a transfer impact assessment for every such data flow.

OmmiQ removes that overhead. As a Germany-based provider, it operates under EU GDPR, and data stays inside the EU/EEA by default. For regulated sectors such as health, public administration, and finance, that's not a nice-to-have but a requirement. For everyone else, it's concentration-risk insurance: you avoid depending on a single jurisdiction that can change the rules without warning.
